Who Is Hiring RBTs in Louisiana

Most active employers (RBT roles): Positive Behavior Supports Corp., Easterseals Louisiana, Arc of Acadiana, FYZICAL Therapy & Balance Centers, Discovery Health Sciences Schools.

Busiest hiring cities: New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Metairie, Lafayette, Covington.

Where RBT wages come from: Louisiana Medicaid pays $12.50 per 15 minutes for the technician-delivered treatment code (CPT 97153) — $50.00 of billable revenue per clinical hour. Your wage, the BCBA’s supervision, benefits, no-shows, and overhead all come out of that number. Higher-rate states can simply pay technicians more — see the Louisiana Medicaid ABA rate table.

Becoming a Billable Technician in Louisiana

If you’re an RBT moving to Louisiana, or thinking about getting certified here, know this first: Louisiana Medicaid’s ABA provider manual never mentions the national RBT credential. It runs its own technician tier instead, called the Registered Line Technician (RLT). RLTs deliver direct therapy, but only under the supervision of a Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA), a state-certified assistant behavior analyst (called SCABA in the board’s rules, CaBA in the Medicaid manual), or a licensed psychologist — and only that supervising professional can actually bill Medicaid for the hours you work.

In practice, this means holding a national RBT certification does not automatically make you billable in Louisiana. What matters is being registered as an RLT and slotted under a supervisor who can bill for your time. If you’re job hunting here, ask any employer directly how they handle that registration and how fast they can get you working. The Louisiana Behavior Analyst Board (LBAB) oversees the credential chain above you.

What That Means for Your Paycheck

Louisiana Medicaid caps how many technicians one supervisor can carry: an LBA can oversee up to 24 technicians a day (more if a CaBA is also on the support team), and up to 10 CaBAs. Supervision is reimbursed at a fixed ratio of 2 hours per 10 hours of therapy, and it cannot be billed on days when the supervisor is also the one delivering your direct therapy — though one-on-one supervision can be billed at the same time as your one-on-one session hours.

That cap is worth knowing as leverage. A supervisor can only stretch so far before hitting the 24-tech ceiling, which means each open slot under a given LBA has a real limit attached to it. If you’re weighing offers, ask how close a practice already is to that cap; a nearly full roster under one supervisor can mean slower hours or a longer wait to get scheduled, while an under-capacity team may have room to give you more billable hours faster. Louisiana Medicaid also allows telehealth ABA delivered by an RLT under remote LBA or CaBA supervision, so in-home hours are not your only option here.

Common Questions

How much does an RBT make in Louisiana?

Job postings in Louisiana that disclose pay show a median around $17.00 per hour (about $35,360 a year full-time).

Do I need the RBT certification to work as a behavior technician in Louisiana?

Louisiana Medicaid does not require the RBT credential for every technician — uncertified behavior technicians can work under BCBA supervision. Details below.

Who is hiring RBTs in Louisiana?

The most active employers in recent postings are Positive Behavior Supports Corp., Easterseals Louisiana, Arc of Acadiana, FYZICAL Therapy & Balance Centers, Discovery Health Sciences Schools. The busiest hiring markets are New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Metairie, Lafayette, Covington.

What is the career path from RBT?

RBT → BCaBA (bachelor’s-level, optional) → BCBA (master’s-level). Supervised fieldwork hours accumulated as an RBT count toward BCBA certification, which is why supervision quality matters as much as the wage when you compare offers.
