Who Is Hiring in Wyoming

Most active employers (BCBA roles): U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, HIGH COUNTRY BEHAVIORAL HEALTH, VOA Northern Rockies, Talkiatry, Evergreen Healthcare Group.

Busiest hiring cities: Casper, Cheyenne, Laramie, Wyoming, Douglas.

Why reimbursement matters for pay: Wyoming Medicaid pays $12.30 per 15 minutes for direct treatment (CPT 97153). That is 18% below the national median ($15.00). Reimbursement sets the ceiling on what practices can pay. See the full Wyoming Medicaid ABA rate table.

Working as a Behavior Analyst in Wyoming

Wyoming has licensed behavior analysts only since March 9, 2022, when HB0110 took effect and was codified as Wyo. Stat. Ann. § 33-27-124. The state doesn’t set its own separate education or exam standard for the license. A current BCBA is simply licensed as a “behavior analyst” and a current BCaBA as an “assistant behavior analyst,” and the Wyoming Board of Psychology verifies your certification directly with the BACB.

For a working BCBA, that’s good news on two fronts. Because licensure tracks your BACB certification instead of a separate state exam, there’s no extra Wyoming-specific credentialing hurdle slowing down a move in or out of state — the application mainly asks for a legible fingerprint card for a state and national criminal history check. And because the license is legally required to practice, employers can’t staff cases with unlicensed BCBAs, which protects credentialed pay from being undercut by unlicensed labor.

The statute also gives BCaBA holders a full license tier of their own, “assistant behavior analyst” — but by law they may practice only under the supervision of a licensed behavior analyst or licensed psychologist. That’s a state-enforced supervision rule stacked on top of whatever the BACB already requires, worth knowing whether you’re a BCaBA weighing job offers or an owner planning how much oversight a BCaBA hire will need.

RBT vs. BT in Wyoming

Wyoming Medicaid’s behavioral health rule recognizes only one paraprofessional tier for ABA: the Registered Behavior Technician, credentialed with the BACB and working under the close, ongoing supervision of a licensed BCBA or BCaBA. There’s no separate uncertified “behavior technician” billing category — Wyoming Medicaid only enrolls certified behavior analysts, assistant behavior analysts, and RBTs.

That makes the RBT credential real leverage for job seekers here: if a practice bills Medicaid, uncertified staff simply can’t generate billable hours. For owners, it simplifies the staffing model — you’re not choosing between a cheaper “BT” tier and a certified “RBT” tier, because state Medicaid rules don’t let an uncertified technician bill at all. Every line-level hire on a Medicaid caseload needs to be RBT-registered.

One planning note for owners billing Wyoming Medicaid: prior authorization runs through Telligen’s Qualitrac portal, and Telligen’s own provider training flags mismatches between the authorized treatment plan and what’s actually billed as a common source of delay — worth building into your intake and billing workflow from day one.
